Twitter has become a part of nearly everyone’s life — even businesses rely on Twitter to promote products and services. However, with the newest updates, the Twitter feed coming into your Android device has become cluttered with posts like “@thisuser just followed @thatuser” or “@toomanypeople are talking about #thisannoyingtopic.” Sometimes, it’s nice to see what’s trending (especially if you’re part of the trend) — but in most cases, that feature clouds up your twitter feed even more than it already is.
Fortunately, there’s a solution. This fix is a bit buried, but it’s not too challenging for anyone who can navigate through Android’s settings. Let me show you how to silence this never-ending stream of Twitter recommendations.
- Open up the Twitter client on your Android device
- Tap the overflow button (three vertical dots in the upper-right corner)
- Tap Settings
- Tap the account that you want to configure
- Tap Notifications (it should say Notifications are ON or OFF)
- Scroll down and locate Recommendations
- Tap to uncheck Recommendations, News, and Other (Figure A)

That’s it. Your Twitter notifications should no longer include those annoying announcements about who followed who and who’s talking about what hot topic.
The Twitter and Android combination is a great way to keep your business connected with an audience while you’re on the go. But when Twitter floods your notifications with a torrent of information you don’t care to have, it’s less helpful and more annoying.
